VAR discussions: DFB open for support from ex
In view of the new criticism of the video assistant, the German Football Association (DFB) is open to possible cooperation with ex-professionals. At which level this could "take place or would be sensible, should be evaluated factually far from emotional and matchday discussions," said referee boss Lutz Michael Fröhlich.
"Constructive suggestions", for example from record national player Lothar Matthäus, is happy to accept the DFB "and we too are striving for an increased exchange with other football experts, current and former players as well as club managers," said Fröhlich. This is an "important addition" to the already taking place with the clubs.
After the recent wrong decisions on the past Bundesliga weekend, there was criticism and the call for reforms. In his Sky column, Matthäus suggested, for example, the integration of former players to support the video assistant.
The hard criticism of the former FIFA referee Manuel Gräfe, who wrote in the bild newspaper of a lack of football competence and demanded a fresh start, rejected. "We estimate the form less constructively, as a former referee uses the current discussion to publicly agree with his personal opinion," he said.

Fröhlich emphasized that the recent mistakes were "very open and clarifying with the affected referees or video assistants". In the "heated discussion about the video assistant", however, it is quickly neglected that almost 90 wrong decisions have so far been prevented by the video assistant in the current Bundesliga season.
