Snoke was presented in the awakening of force as a kind of successor of Emperor Palpatine , doing the Master s times Kylo Ren on the dark side of force.
However, Snoke would end up killing Kylo Ren in recent Jedi, passing the command of the first order to once known as Ben alone .

The book is written so that they seem notes of the Emperor Palpatine from the lair of it at Exegol , where he looks for the moment to get a host that gave fit to his power on the dark side.
The notes collect that Snoke was one of the many clones created to be palpatine host, but was not able to contain the power of the dethron emperor.
Darth Sidious decided to use Snoke as a puppet, providing a certain free will to control the first order , but being able to take over when he wanted.
The plan was that Snoke prepare Kylo Ren to become the perfect recipient for the essence of Palpatine, being able to house his immeasurable power on the dark side.
The clones, by not being natural ways of life, were unable to harbor a power like Palpatine, deforming and succumbing quickly.
